New Work: Matter
Angus Hyland and his assistant Masumi Briozzo have designed a corporate brochure promoting private-hire opportunities at Matter; the recently opened music venue designed by Pentagram Architect William Russell.
Hyland has provided graphics and branding consultation to Matter since its inception; naming the venue and then designing its identity and signage in parallel with Russell’s work on its architectural interior. Pentagram’s design for the corporate brochure is part of an ongoing creative relationship with Matter that has also seen us design the poster promoting Matter’s first ever New Years Eve event.
The brochure is covered in a heavy grey card, embossed with a textural diamond pattern, foil stamped with the Matter logo and bound with a Singer-sewn binding with exposed stitching. This rawness contrasts with the super-glossy UV varnish-coated photography of the brochure’s pages, evoking the architectural experience of Matter; a brutalistic concrete space, brought to life by the play of light over a palate of various textures and materials such as sheet metal and ceramic tiles. Targeted at events planners and PRs, the brochure presents Matter’s capabilities floor-by-floor, illustrated using axonometric drawings of the space and commissioned architectural photography by Gavin Jackson.
