Paula Scher in Madrid

Preview — Nov 09, 2021

The Museo Nacional de Artes Decorativas presents a career-spanning exhibition of the designer in partnership with Madrid Gráfica 2021.

The work of Pentagram’s Paula Scher is the subject of a major exhibition at the Museo Nacional de Artes Decorativas, presented in conjunction with Madrid Gráfica 2021, the city’s annual exposition of international graphic design. The retrospective showcases a selection of projects from throughout Scher’s career, chosen by Manuel Estrada, the director of Madrid Gráfica.

Featured works include Scher’s early record covers, and identities, posters and environmental graphics for clients including the Public Theater, the High Line, New Jersey Performing Arts Center, the Atlantic Theater, Quad Cinema, Citibank, Bloomberg, the New School, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Library of Congress and the National Women’s History Museum, among many others. The exhibition design enlarges images of the projects to cover the walls of the galleries, a treatment inspired by Scher’s own supergraphic installations of typography.

The show remains on view through January 16, 2022.
