The two-volume history is an in-depth survey of the firm’s first 50 years.

We’re excited to announce that Pentagram: Living by Design, a new two-volume history of Pentagram‘s first 50 years, is published by Thames and Hudson in the UK on October 12 and in the US on November 21.

Over five years in the making, Living by Design is an in-depth survey of Pentagram from our beginnings in 1970s London up to the present day. Written by Adrian Shaughnessy and designed by Tony Brook and the SPIN design team, the new edition uses a range of paper stocks and special colors.

Originally published by Unit Editions in December 2022, the limited edition book sold out almost immediately in pre-orders. It is now available in a new release from Thames & Hudson with the identical content.

Book one, “The Biography,” offers a comprehensive analysis of Pentagram, our partners, our multidisciplinary approach, and our unique business model. This is accompanied by a plethora of images (some never published), a visual essay of Pentagram’s work across four main sectors, a selection of partner’s writings, a Pentagram family tree, and much more. Book two, “The Directory,” features profiles of 50 partners, past and present, accompanied by extensive coverage of their work.
