‘Afrofuturism: A History of Black Futures’

Design of the companion book of the exhibition at the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

The book design features custom typography inspired by iconic objects featured in the exhibition.

The museum wanted the book to have a life beyond the exhibition as a valuable and accessible resource on Afrofuturism.

The flexible structure interweaves essays, profiles and objects in an engaging mix that offers many different points of entry for anyone who picks up and flips through the book.

The strong typography is complemented by a vibrant color palette based on colors found in the artifacts themselves.

The electric yellow book jacket and red cover beneath reference the colors of the original Parliament logo, with the exhibition title set in Parliament Medium.

Retrospective: London Design Festival

London Design Festival has been an annual celebration of the power of creativity for over 20 years. Since 2008, Pentagram partner Domenic Lippa has served as the LDF’s creative director, responsible every September for the design of a new visual identity. By inventively remixing a few key elements — typography, a signature red (“the colour of London”), and LDF's simple monogram — the program unifies hundreds of events while reaffirming London’s status as a global design capital.
