Angus Hyland has a longstanding creative partnership with Cass Art which began in 2001 when he was commissioned to design the company’s new visual identity.

The identity centered around a new inspirational manifesto and the tagline ‘Let's Fill This Town With Artists’, reinforcing Cass Art’s mission to make high-quality art materials available for everyone.

The Cass Art Collection has expanded to include artists’ pastels, brushes, portfolios and pencils. Every year sees the release of a new coloured typographic tote bag, each featuring a different artists’ paint colour.

As the UK‘s leading independent art supplies retailer with 14 shops across the country, Cass Art is on a mission to make art accessible to all, encouraging everyone to realise their creative talents by providing the world’s top quality materials at the best prices. The Cass family has supported artists for over 125 years with the first Cass Art Shop opening at 13 Charing Cross Road in 1984.
The bold, typographic identity appears on signage and graphics throughout the stores and online, as well as on the growing range of Cass Art’s own-brand products.
The Cass Art Collection was designed by Angus and launched in 2013 with a series of art pads. The cover design for each pad is based on the same simple idea, to represent the media designed to be used on it (such as watercolour or pastel) directly on the cover. All feature hand-drawn or painted designs based on expressive mark making, with the first collection featuring a series of illustrations by Marion Deuchars.
Since then, the Cass Art Collection has expanded to include artists’ pastels, brushes, portfolios and pencils. Every year sees the release of a new coloured typographic tote bag, each featuring a different artists’ paint colour. These tote bags, alongside the award-winning Cass Art Paper Range, have earned industry acclaim.
In 2021, Angus’ first exhibition of paintings ‘Looking for a Certain Ratio’ debuted at Cass Art’s Glasgow Art Space, and in 2023 ‘Bags of Art and Design’, a collection of sustainable tote bags created as part of a collaboration between Pentagram, Cass Art, and Bags of Ethics launched as part of the London Design Festival
