Deborah Roberts ‘I’M’

Coffee-table book and interactive website design for Austin artist Deborah Roberts.

Through the perspective of childhood, she addresses complex social, political and racial constructs, and the challenges they present for young black children.

The coffee-table book includes studio shots of Roberts’ artworks by Paul Bardagjy and environmental photographs of her work in the exhibition space by Colin Doyle.

The typeface is based on the bold, sans-serif letterforms printed on the placards carried by protesters during the historic Memphis sanitation workers strike of 1968.

Retrospective: Shakespeare in the Park

In 1954, impresario Joe Papp began a summer tradition of staging free outdoor performances of Shakespeare, inaugurating the Public Theater’s beloved Shakespeare in the Park festival. Pentagram partner Paula Scher, whose relationship with the Public spans four decades, has designed a new identity for the series for thirty consecutive summers. Each campaign is customized to the season’s theme, creating a highly visible graphic vocabulary for outdoor advertising, social media, and on-site signage.
