Laurence King Publishing

Creative direction and design for the UK’s most innovative design-led publisher.

Angus Hyland’s longstanding relationship with Laurence King Publishing began in 1996 when he designed ‘20th-Century Type (Remix)’, a decade-by-decade analysis of the issues that shaped the history of typographic and, latterly, graphic design.

In 2001 Angus authoured his debut book for LKP, ‘Pen and Mouse: Commercial Art and Digital Illustration’, the first-ever survey of computer-generated contemporary illustration from around the world, followed by a sequel ‘Hand to Eye’ two years later.

Retrospective: Shakespeare in the Park

In 1954, impresario Joe Papp began a summer tradition of staging free outdoor performances of Shakespeare, inaugurating the Public Theater’s beloved Shakespeare in the Park festival. Pentagram partner Paula Scher, whose relationship with the Public spans four decades, has designed a new identity for the series for thirty consecutive summers. Each campaign is customized to the season’s theme, creating a highly visible graphic vocabulary for outdoor advertising, social media, and on-site signage.
