London Design Festival 2020

A bold typographic identity for the capital's first design event of 2020.

London Design Festival 2020 is the first major international design event to take place in the capital since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The team’s aim was to develop a campaign that would be instantly recognisable, and would reinforce the vital role of the creative industries during this challenging year for the design community.

The signature colour palette of red and white was employed—this is now one of the Festival’s strongest and most recognisable assets.

LDF20’s identity uses a series of expanded letterforms which grow to fill the space available, making us consider our own spaces and the different ways that we now have to fit into them.

Retrospective: Shakespeare in the Park

In 1954, impresario Joe Papp began a summer tradition of staging free outdoor performances of Shakespeare, inaugurating the Public Theater’s beloved Shakespeare in the Park festival. Pentagram partner Paula Scher, whose relationship with the Public spans four decades, has designed a new identity for the series for thirty consecutive summers. Each campaign is customized to the season’s theme, creating a highly visible graphic vocabulary for outdoor advertising, social media, and on-site signage.
