This year's identity is built around the theme ‘Framing LDF’ and is centred around the idea of the Festival as a framework, one that gives hundreds of designers across London a platform to show their work.
The team looked towards the supportive role the Festival plays within the city itself, with the visual identity putting creatives’ work at the forefront of the campaign; from providing a platform for emerging creatives, to providing established practices and designers with opportunities to showcase new ideas.
One of the world’s leading design events, the London Design Festival returns this September with a new visual identity designed by LDF's longstanding creative director Domenic Lippa and his team at Pentagram.
2026 sees the 24th edition of the Festival, which runs for nine days across eleven Design Districts across the Capital. This year's identity is built around the theme ‘Framing LDF’ and is centred around the idea of the Festival as a framework, one that gives hundreds of designers across London a platform to show their work.
Domenic and the team looked towards the supportive role the Festival plays within the city itself, with the visual identity putting creatives’ work at the forefront of the campaign; from providing a platform for emerging creatives in their early careers, to providing established practices and designers with opportunities to showcase new ideas and ambitious projects.
LDF’s signature red runs throughout the identity, described by Domenic as being ‘the colour of London’. “The red is our most important asset, along with our core identity”, he explains. ”The campaign idea needs to look different each year. This year we wanted something which is still confident yet has a sophistication. Although the typography is relatively simple, the invisible frame gives the concept an ever evolving digital function that can work over any image and even without imagery.
I hope each year we have large or small surprises that engage people. That reflects the notion that we and everyone at the Festival really care about this opportunity. The Festival is part of the design team and I always value their input. It makes the whole process more rewarding.”
