MoMA

Brand identity system for the Museum of Modern Art in New York, one of the world's largest art institutions.

The new identity establishes a system for the consistent treatment of images and type.
A poster using the new system, which makes dramatic use of images.

The new system employs prominent use of the MoMA logo as a graphic device, dramatic cropping and juxtapositions of artwork, and a brighter color palette to create a bold, contemporary image.

The new identity's vertical logo placement echoes signage on the museum's façade.
Print communications designed using the new identity.
Installation in the Fifth Avenue and 53rd Street subway station across the street from the museum.

Retrospective: Shakespeare in the Park

In 1954, impresario Joe Papp began a summer tradition of staging free outdoor performances of Shakespeare, inaugurating the Public Theater’s beloved Shakespeare in the Park festival. Pentagram partner Paula Scher, whose relationship with the Public spans four decades, has designed a new identity for the series for thirty consecutive summers. Each campaign is customized to the season’s theme, creating a highly visible graphic vocabulary for outdoor advertising, social media, and on-site signage.
