Theo Crosby argued the case for personalizing commercial buildings through art and design in order to preserve the humanity of the urban environment. In Pentagram Papers 2: The Pessimist Utopia he explained that 'the artist's role is to assert the tangible, the tactile, the human scale; to give some life, humour and amusement to our pompous buildings.'
