Precursors to the contemporary fashion magazine, the hinagata were essentially catalogues showing the styles and patterns available. To evoke a period feeling in Pentagram Papers 31: Hinagata: Kimono Pattern Books, a tactile uncoated paper was used with the caption copy running vertically on the page in a Japanese calligraphic manner.
