‘Punk: From Chaos to Couture’

Design for a book accompanying the exhibition at the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

The large-scale typography is set in New Rail.
Opening spread of an essay by the music journalist and historian Jon Savage.

The 12”-square format recreates the size and scale of an LP cover, and the book has been printed on an uncoated paper stock that gives it a raw, tactile quality.

The book juxtaposes historical photos with designs influenced by punk.
A quote by Johnny Rotten opens a section on punk fashion inspired by trash, with a period photo.

Retrospective: Shakespeare in the Park

In 1954, impresario Joe Papp began a summer tradition of staging free outdoor performances of Shakespeare, inaugurating the Public Theater’s beloved Shakespeare in the Park festival. Pentagram partner Paula Scher, whose relationship with the Public spans four decades, has designed a new identity for the series for thirty consecutive summers. Each campaign is customized to the season’s theme, creating a highly visible graphic vocabulary for outdoor advertising, social media, and on-site signage.
