The new identity needed to capture the colorful spirit and rich heritage of San Antonio, a historically important Texas city 80 miles southwest of the State Capitol in Austin.

Wordmark references the library’s design.
Logotype can be used in or out of the box.

The distinct geometry of the library’s architecture also influenced the typographic direction of the new wordmark.

Designs for business cards.
Letterhead features geometric letterforms.

The new identity tools include a set of colorful, checkered and step-and-repeat patterns and a framing device where photographs and other imagery of the Book festival can be placed within the geometric SABF letterforms.

The identity system provides a spectrum of bold color combinations inspired by Mexican culture that add a bright festive quality to merch, promotions and publicity materials.

Retrospective: Saturday Night Live

When a scruffy after-hours comedy show debuted in NBC’s Studio 8H on October 11, 1975, no one could have known that the entertainment world was about to be changed forever. Over the next half century, Saturday Night Live would launch the careers of countless global stars, create indelible catch phrases, and consolidate the reputations of musical acts from Talking Heads to Kendrick Lamar. Since 1994, Pentagram partner Emily Oberman has been the steward of SNL’s graphic image, from the show’s iconic opening titles, to books celebrating its legacy. With each project, she meets the challenge of acknowledging the franchise’s extraordinary legacy while keeping its profile fresh, surprising, and funny.
