Sidwell Friends School

A new athletic identity for the Quaker day school located in Washington, D.C. and Bethesda, Maryland.

George Fox founded the Quakers in the 17th century.
George Washington’s family crest inspired the Washington DC flag.

The school’s new spirit mark, the face of a determined but friendly fox composed in a five-pointed star, references the Sidwell Friends legacy as the only Quaker school in the nation’s capital.

The new identity provides a timeless yet modern look that reflects the strength, competitiveness, and leadership qualities of Sidwell Friends’ Athletics.

Several logotypes were developed for additional applications on uniforms, baseball caps, helmets, and other athletic gear.

Retrospective: Shakespeare in the Park

In 1954, impresario Joe Papp began a summer tradition of staging free outdoor performances of Shakespeare, inaugurating the Public Theater’s beloved Shakespeare in the Park festival. Pentagram partner Paula Scher, whose relationship with the Public spans four decades, has designed a new identity for the series for thirty consecutive summers. Each campaign is customized to the season’s theme, creating a highly visible graphic vocabulary for outdoor advertising, social media, and on-site signage.
