Every year the Society of Publication Designers (SPD) celebrates the best in editorial design in print and digital media in its annual design competition, the SPD Awards. The winning designers, photographers, illustrators and journalists are feted at the SPD Awards Gala and have their work published in the SPD Annual. Pentagram has designed the latest Annual, SPD 47, honoring the best of 2011. 

The book’s simple, elegant design brings the party to its pages with a festive graphic motif inspired by confetti. The confetti appears foil-stamped on the book’s cover, which has been published in four different colors: silver, blue, green and red. The pattern continues in black and white throughout the book, decorating section openers for folios of winners in the Design, Photography, Illustration and Digital categories. The book's typography is set in the font Replica from Lineto. The confetti motif extends to the page numbers, which each appear in a slightly different shape of confetti, so the forms appear to animate when the book's pages are flipped.
