Pentagram

Film Independent

Brand identity for the non-profit organization that champions independent film through a variety of programs and events.

The words can be split up (or cut, to use film editing terms) and spliced and reassembled into multiple offbeat shapes, stacks and compositions.

Rounding it all out, the color palette, color-treated images and “image bands” further reference the heritage of film but are used in updated ways to emphasize the organization as a forward-looking entity within the industry.

Retrospective: Shakespeare in the Park

In 1954, impresario Joe Papp began a summer tradition of staging free outdoor performances of Shakespeare, inaugurating the Public Theater’s beloved Shakespeare in the Park festival. Pentagram partner Paula Scher, whose relationship with the Public spans four decades, has designed a new identity for the series for thirty consecutive summers. Each campaign is customized to the season’s theme, creating a highly visible graphic vocabulary for outdoor advertising, social media, and on-site signage.
