Future Utopia ‘12 Questions’

Design and creative direction for the new project from producer and songwriter Fraser T Smith.

Musically ‘12 Questions’ is a hybrid that spans diverse genres and sounds, and Smith wanted the cover to have a mystical, neo-psychedelic vibe that captured this interconnected world.

Each song on ‘12 Questions’ is framed as an inquiry and is given its own distinct section and animation within the larger cover.

Pentagram worked with illustrator Ori Toor and Smith to develop a vibrant, intricate landscape with distinct episodes based on the 12 songs.

On the eve of the 2020 US presidential election, several questions taken from titles of the songs were projected on landmarks in Philadelphia, New York, Los Angeles, Detroit and Miami.

Retrospective: Shakespeare in the Park

In 1954, impresario Joe Papp began a summer tradition of staging free outdoor performances of Shakespeare, inaugurating the Public Theater’s beloved Shakespeare in the Park festival. Pentagram partner Paula Scher, whose relationship with the Public spans four decades, has designed a new identity for the series for thirty consecutive summers. Each campaign is customized to the season’s theme, creating a highly visible graphic vocabulary for outdoor advertising, social media, and on-site signage.
