There are few places where design has to work harder, or where the outcome is more decisive, than the retail store shelf. It is there that a company that has spent years painstakingly building a brand at last puts the result up for a vote. Faced with multiple options, what will the consumer choose?
We believe a well-designed package can convey an enormous amount of information. First, did I notice it? Is this for me? Is it worth the money? Will I know what to do with it when I get home? Innumerable cues, large and small, work in concert to create a sense of confidence in advance of the purchase. And beyond: the package a product comes in (and comes out of) must signal intelligence and taste, ease of use, a commitment to the environment, all reinforcing the choice was a smart one.
