Comprehensive brand identity system for the top-ranked Catholic university in Los Angeles.

The identity system is composed of three graphic components, including a refined academic seal, an institutional logo based on a shield, and a new spirit mark.

The identity simplifies and refines the elaborate, ‘old-school’ seal, updating the shield and the symbols for the two original founding institutions, Loyola and Marymount.

A new icon features the simplified head of a lion, LMU’s mascot, rendered with a distinctive, ‘sunburst’ mane based on the ancient Jesuit symbol for Jesus.

The 500-year-old Jesuit seal, a sunburst/halo, was the inspiration for the new spirit mark.
The Rose Window from LMU’s Sacred Heart Chapel includes a version of the Jesuit seal.

A refreshed color palette updates the original colors of the two founding institutions, making the maroon and blue brighter, sportier and more compatible when used together.

Retrospective: Saturday Night Live

When a scruffy after-hours comedy show debuted in NBC’s Studio 8H on October 11, 1975, no one could have known that the entertainment world was about to be changed forever. Over the next half century, Saturday Night Live would launch the careers of countless global stars, create indelible catch phrases, and consolidate the reputations of musical acts from Talking Heads to Kendrick Lamar. Since 1994, Pentagram partner Emily Oberman has been the steward of SNL’s graphic image, from the show’s iconic opening titles, to books celebrating its legacy.
