Pentagram

Sotheby's

A comprehensive identity program brings coherence to the auction house's identity and communications.

The logotype shifted from a Gill Sans-based sans serif to the serif font Mercury for a sharper look.
The new Sotheby's wordmark.
The program includes signage and environmental graphics for Sotheby's locations around the world.

The goal of the redesign was maintaining the image of a modern global brand while also reflecting the heritage of a company that has been in business for almost 300 years.

Catalogue typography appears in the font Benton Sans.
Interior layouts are clean and minimal, with object images silhouetted against white.
The catalogues are important selling tools and also function as an archive of Sotheby's auctions.
The magazine looks at Sotheby's activities in the context of the international art scene.

Dramatically cropped, the oversized photographs suggest both a macro and micro view of the art world and provide a compelling entry point to content about the auction house and its activities.

Retrospective: London Design Festival

London Design Festival has been an annual celebration of the power of creativity for over 20 years. Since 2008, Pentagram partner Domenic Lippa has served as the LDF’s creative director, responsible every September for the design of a new visual identity. By inventively remixing a few key elements — typography, a signature red (“the colour of London”), and LDF's simple monogram — the program unifies hundreds of events while reaffirming London’s status as a global design capital.
