State Farm Stadium

Signage & Environmental Graphics

A bold and iconic environmental graphic program for the Arizona Cardinals home and stadium.

The Arizona Cardinals NFL team has built an iconic new stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Designed by Peter Eisenman and HOK Sport, the building is a state-of-the-art facility with both a retractable roof and the only retractable grass playing field in North America. Bloomberg Business Week magazine named the stadium, with its distinctive form inspired by the local barrel cactus, to be one of the ten most impressive sporting structures in the world, the only stadium to be so designated in the U.S.

It is home to the Arizona Cardinals. The stadium has hosted the Fiesta Bowl, the 2007 and 2011 BCS National Championship Games, the 2016 College Football Playoff National Championship, 2008, 2015, and 2023 Super Bowls, and the Pro Bowl in 2015. For soccer, it was one of the stadiums for the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, the first semi-final of the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup, and the Copa América Centenario in 2016. For basketball, it hosted the NCAA Final Four in 2017, which is scheduled to return in 2024.

Pentagram has created an inventive visual and graphic program for the stadium and surrounding site. The graphic and interior design program encompasses the building’s overall identification, large-scale thematic elements, signage, sponsor graphics, scoreboards and end zone treatments, and interiors for locker rooms, club lounges, corporate lofts and the team store. The work makes the stadium a vital part of the Cardinals’ identity, creating a dynamic new home for a team that is the oldest continuously run professional football franchise in the nation.
