‘Surf Texas’

Design for a book of photographs that documents surf culture in Texas.

Title spread.
The book opens with a full spread photograph of surfers patiently waiting for a wave.

The book includes action shots for sure but Braun's images of the Texas Gulf coast landscape and the people who make up its rag-tag surfing culture are quieter and decidedly more contemplative.

Spread with artist's statement.
Surfer's face covered in a zinc mask, left; Man waiting to on the wake of a taker, right.
Photograph of a surfer at the Galveston seawall (left) and a surfer framed by a cement pipe.
Humans and dolphin catch a wave.
Texas surfers flock to good conditions at any hour of the day and during hurricanes and storms.

Retrospective: Shakespeare in the Park

In 1954, impresario Joe Papp began a summer tradition of staging free outdoor performances of Shakespeare, inaugurating the Public Theater’s beloved Shakespeare in the Park festival. Pentagram partner Paula Scher, whose relationship with the Public spans four decades, has designed a new identity for the series for thirty consecutive summers. Each campaign is customized to the season’s theme, creating a highly visible graphic vocabulary for outdoor advertising, social media, and on-site signage.
