Pentagram

‘The Art Museum in Modern Times’

Design for a book that looks at how the experience of art is shaped by the buildings that house it.

The 272-page hardback book contains over 100 colour and black and white images illustrating the narrative across airy layouts, which give the photographs plenty of space to breathe.

The typography reflects the book’s forward-looking theme, with Paul Renner’s classic geometric Futura typeface used for headlines, chapter openers and text.

Retrospective: Shakespeare in the Park

In 1954, impresario Joe Papp began a summer tradition of staging free outdoor performances of Shakespeare, inaugurating the Public Theater’s beloved Shakespeare in the Park festival. Pentagram partner Paula Scher, whose relationship with the Public spans four decades, has designed a new identity for the series for thirty consecutive summers. Each campaign is customized to the season’s theme, creating a highly visible graphic vocabulary for outdoor advertising, social media, and on-site signage.
