The Cooper Union

Signage and environmental graphics for the school's new academic building designed by Morphosis.

The Cooper Union's new academic building at 41 Cooper Square.
Foundry Gridnik was selected for its resemblance to the lettering on the original building.

The signage typography has been physicalized in different ways, engaging multiple surfaces of the three-dimensional signs, appearing extruded across corners, or cut, extended and dragged through the material.

The lobby atrium at 41 Cooper Square.
Donor signage cascades down the underside of a lobby staircase.
The visible edges of the typography create a pattern in the halls.
Room signage set in Gridnik.
Donor signage on the roof terrace appears as a constellation of names engraved in granite.

Retrospective: Shakespeare in the Park

In 1954, impresario Joe Papp began a summer tradition of staging free outdoor performances of Shakespeare, inaugurating the Public Theater’s beloved Shakespeare in the Park festival. Pentagram partner Paula Scher, whose relationship with the Public spans four decades, has designed a new identity for the series for thirty consecutive summers. Each campaign is customized to the season’s theme, creating a highly visible graphic vocabulary for outdoor advertising, social media, and on-site signage.
