‘Overlooked 2.0’

A vibrant new series of prints by Marina Willer making its debut at the 2024 London Design Festival.

Found across the city from Brixton to Kensington, these humble objects are the gatekeepers to a mysterious underground world.

Held in the atmospheric new development at Borough Yards, the exhibition attracted several hundred visitors from around the world over the nine days of the festival.

The neon-coloured rubbings depict these metal lids as impeccable pieces of industrial design, threaded throughout the functional fabric of a city.

The new series is even more vibrant and diverse than the original, covering many areas across London.

By applying such vibrant combination of colours the series celebrates the decorative nature of these objects and patterns, constrasting beautifully with their functional nature and industrial aesthetic.

Marina and her team scoured the city streets to find the best examples of these fascinating objects, and most of the iron street covers show the name of the foundry where they were originally cast.

The prints serve as a reminder that a city’s beauty isn’t limited to art galleries or grand architecture, and that intriguing design is everywhere if we just look for it.

During the exhibition, Dan and Marina held screenprinting workshops where people could create their own designs as a response to the ‘Overlooked’ prints.

Retrospective: Saturday Night Live

When a scruffy after-hours comedy show debuted in NBC’s Studio 8H on October 11, 1975, no one could have known that the entertainment world was about to be changed forever. Over the next half century, Saturday Night Live would launch the careers of countless global stars, create indelible catch phrases, and consolidate the reputations of musical acts from Talking Heads to Kendrick Lamar. Since 1994, Pentagram partner Emily Oberman has been the steward of SNL’s graphic image, from the show’s iconic opening titles, to books celebrating its legacy. With each project, she meets the challenge of acknowledging the franchise’s extraordinary legacy while keeping its profile fresh, surprising, and funny.
