Hudson River Park

Brand identity and comprehensive signage and environmental graphics system for the longest continuous park in New York City.

The long, tall forms and identity are inspired by the fact that Hudson River Park is the longest continuous park in NYC.

The Beacons welcome visitors to Hudson River Park with friendly, 15-foot-tall illuminated landmarks of the new park identity that announce entrances at major cross streets and function as guideposts along the park.

The graphics reference the park’s unique merging of river and green, and function as an abstract map of the park, with notches placed at the location of the piers.

Retrospective: Shakespeare in the Park

In 1954, impresario Joe Papp began a summer tradition of staging free outdoor performances of Shakespeare, inaugurating the Public Theater’s beloved Shakespeare in the Park festival. Pentagram partner Paula Scher, whose relationship with the Public spans four decades, has designed a new identity for the series for thirty consecutive summers. Each campaign is customized to the season’s theme, creating a highly visible graphic vocabulary for outdoor advertising, social media, and on-site signage.
