Karel Martens, Pentagram’s Harry Pearce, Liberty’s Andrea Petochi and Mary-Anne Dunkley gathered for a special evening at Pentagram’s Notting Hill studio celebrating the ongoing creative collaboration between Karel, Harry and the Liberty Fabric Design Team.

After an insightful and inspiration-filled presentation, guests were invited to view a new installation featuring insights into the design process behind both collections. The installation showcases the experimental typographic designs created by Harry and Johannes Grimmond for the new Liberty Letters fabrics and accessories collection, as well as Karel’s vibrant prints for Liberty Fabrics. A limited edition newspaper was also printed to accompany the installation, featuring an interview with Harry Pearce by Adrian Shaughnessy.

Harry and Karel are longstanding friends and collaborators. Harry’s Liberty Letters collection builds upon the new visual identity that Pentagram designed for the 148-year-old brand, which includes a new logotype adapted from the lettering in the original sign above the Great Marlborough Street storefront.

Karel was then introduced to the Liberty team by Harry, and was invited to curate a capsule collection of designs for SS24. In the spirit of Liberty, Harry and Karel were given free rein to create patterns that will live forever in the iconic fabric archive.

Harry explains: “The relationship with Liberty has become so precious. Built on trust and mutual curiosity, bravery and experimentation: I cannot thank Andrea Petochi and his team enough for this faith in us. What makes this even more gratifying is that now we have been able to include Karel Martens, my dear friend and collaborator, into this extended creative family.”
