Pentagram

Intrinsic

A prescience-driven brand identity for Intrinsic, a graduate of X, Alphabet's moonshot factory, that makes-tangible the software powering the future of robotics.

Intrinsic challenged Pentagram to help them visualise its industry-defining offer that serves to make robotic programming radically more accessible and intuitive.

Pentagram’s solution centres on the narrative of prescience (having foresight) to describe the ability of the Intrinsic platform to solve complicated problems through the use of machine learning and simulation.

Pentagram created the Intrinsic Effect Tool to visualise a robotic arm abstraction, generatively animated through inverse kinematics with built-in behavioural parameters that represent the key functions of Intrinsic’s software.

Matched with the simplicity and uniformity of the wordmark, symbol and typographic language—brand icons are robust and functional with the reveal of orthographic 3-dimensional depth for expressive icons.

The brand-wide typographic system uses a combination of standard and semi-monospaced widths to create contrast when moving between business-facing and engineer-facing content.

Just as the personal computing revolution enabled everyone to access computers, industrial robotics is on the cusp of a similar shift. Pentagram’s new identity will help Intrinsic cement its unique position at the forefront of AI-enabled, developer-centric robotics.

Retrospective: London Design Festival

London Design Festival has been an annual celebration of the power of creativity for over 20 years. Since 2008, Pentagram partner Domenic Lippa has served as the LDF’s creative director, responsible every September for the design of a new visual identity. By inventively remixing a few key elements — typography, a signature red (“the colour of London”), and LDF's simple monogram — the program unifies hundreds of events while reaffirming London’s status as a global design capital.
