Pentagram

SUNY Binghamton Libraries Installation

A data-driven mural for SUNY Binghamton University's Glenn G. Bartle Library.

The University commissioned Pentagram to create a data-driven mural that transforms a prominent, newly renovated space within Bartle Library into a layered visual portrait that reflects the character and complexity of the Library’s collections.

Installed on wooden panels with an accompanying legend, the mural invites both immediate impact and intimate close reading.

Across the room, a companion interactive wall extends the experience into a collaborative space. Students select magnets coded by major and place them in response to prompts about reading habits, learning, privacy, and the future of knowledge.

Retrospective: Shakespeare in the Park

In 1954, impresario Joe Papp began a summer tradition of staging free outdoor performances of Shakespeare, inaugurating the Public Theater’s beloved Shakespeare in the Park festival. Pentagram partner Paula Scher, whose relationship with the Public spans four decades, has designed a new identity for the series for thirty consecutive summers. Each campaign is customized to the season’s theme, creating a highly visible graphic vocabulary for outdoor advertising, social media, and on-site signage.
